    MASS RALLIES WERE HELD IN ACCRA AND OTHER PARTS OF GHANA ON SATURDAY TO MARK THE 16TH ANNIVERSARY OF "POSITIVE ACTION DAY." THIS WAS THE DAY WHEN DR. NKRUMAH, NOW GHANA'S PRESIDENT, CALLED FOR NON-VIOLENT BOYCOTTS AND STRIKES TO FORCE BRITAIN TO HAND OVER POWER IN WHAT WAS THEN THE GOLD COAST.

    FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR "POSITIVE ACTION DAY" WAS CELEBRATED IN GHANA AS A PUBLIC HOLIDAY. A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT NKRUMAH WAS READ AT ALL THE RALLIES. THE PRESIDENT HIMSELF RECEIVED HUNDREDS OF MESSAGES FROM WELL-WISHERS ALL OVER GHANA. A MESSAGE SENT ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF ACCRA BY MR. H .S T. PROVENCAL, EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF THE ACCRA-TEMA CITY COUNCIL, RECALLED "THE SPARK OF LIBERATION WHICH YOU SO GALLANTLY LIT ON THAT MEMORABLE MORNING OF JANUARY 8, 1950."
    MR. PROVENCAL WAS ONE OF THE SPEAKERS AT THE ACCRA RALLY, AS WAS MR. PAUL TAGOE, FIRST PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY. ALL WORKERS IN THE GREATER ACCRA AREA WERE EARLIER TOLD THEY WERE EXPECTED TO ATTEND THE RALLY, AND ABOUT 16 BUSES WERE PROVIDE TO CONVEY WORKERS TO AND FROM THE SPORTS STADIUM. PRESIDENT NKRUMAH IS EXPECTED TO SPEAK ON GHANA'S FUTURE DEVELOPMENT AND FOREIGN POLICY WHEN HE OPENS PARLIAMENT ON THE 18TH OF THIS MONTH.
