    NEW RADIO STUDIOS BUILT WITH FINANCIAL AID FROM WEST GERMANY WERE OPENED ON SATURDAY (DECEMBER 10) FOR THE SOMALI BROADCASTING SERVICE IN MOGADISHU, THE CAPITAL OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOMALIA.

    AT THE OPENING CEREMONY WAS A 67-MAN WEST GERMAN DELEGATION, INCLUDING OFFICIALS FROM THE DEPARTMENTS OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, ECONOMICS AND INFORMATION.

    IN THEIR FOUR-DAY STAY IN MOGADISHU, MEMBERS OF THE DELEGATION WERE TO HAVE TALKS WITH PRESIDENT ADAN ABDULLA OSMAN OF SOMALIA ON ECONOMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES.

    THE FOUR NEW STUDIOS, A MASTER CONTROL ROOM, TAPE EDITING ROOM AND RECORD LIBRARY COST ABOUT GBP50,000 (STERLING). THEY REPLACE TWO OLD STUDIOS AND TOOK NEARLY A YEAR TO BUILD.

    THE STUDIOS ARE LINKED WITH A 50-KILOWATT SHORTWAVE TRANSMITTER FIVE MILES AWAY -- BUILT LAST YEAR FOR RADIO MOGADISHU BY THE SOVIET UNION.

    UNESCO IS AT PRESENT HELPING THE STATION IN REORGANISATION AND EXPANSION OF ITS PROGRAMMES.
