Background: An outdoor revolving auditorium - probably the first in the world - has recently been completed at the Summer Theatre, Tampere, central Finland. The Theatre was filmed during a recent visit by members of the International Theatre Institute Congress held in Finland.

The new electrically operated auditorium - there are others but installed in theatres, not outside - enables the entire audience to be revolved to face a different part of the surrounding stage for changes of scene, thus greatly increasing the Theatre facilities.

Of construction the whole structure rests on a rotating steel track supported by a central bearing, 16 supporting reels are attached to the foundation. On these reels, and the central bearing, the auditorium is turned through a full 360 degree circle, operated by electricity.

Seating 800 people, the auditorium - over sixty feet in diameter - is to come into use for the first time on June 16.
