Motocross-and Venezuelans Gustov Herrera and Ricardo Boada are this year's Latin American motocross champions. They rode their way to victory in 250cc and 125cc motorbikes.
SYNOPSIS: Off on the first heat of the 250cc event. The riders had trouble seeing the track in the choking dust on the circuit, 30km south of Santiago.
An usual in this type of event, not all the riders managed to ride round the tough course unscathed.
The winner-Gustov Herrera. He was vice-champion in the same trial last year, but this time he managed to power his 250cc machine to victory.
The motorcycle racing buffs braved the dust to see their heroes in action-and there was plenty of that in the 125cc class.
Motocross is no sport for the faint hearted, and the riders have to be as tough as their machines disregarding the roughness of the track, the dust and other obstacles in their attempt to win the coveted championship title.
But in each class there can be only one winner-and it was Ricardo Boada, who joined his fellow-countryman Herrera in the championship. For Boada, the win was a double triumph. He was 125cc champion last year too.
