    One hundred and fourteen women graduated from the Mauritanian Office of Carpets on Tuesday (January 8)., They were presented with their diplomas at a special ceremony at the institute in Nouakchott.

    Mrs. Mariem Daddah, the wife of Mauritania's Resident, Moktar Ould Daddah, attended the ceremony accompanied by the minsters of Tourism and Artisans.

    The Mauritanian Office of Carpets was founded in 1965. It was financed with money raised at a party given by the Superior Council of Women and funds donated by the Mauritanian Government, the Mauritanian Chamber of Commerce and the United Nations. It is primarily an educational institute but all the carpets produced by the students will be purchased by the Office of Artisans.

    The Office of Carpets has received strong support from women's groups in Mauritania. The Keynote speech was given by the President of the Superior Council of Women.

    The graduates will be working in co-operatives throughout the country.
