    THE TEMPLAR BARRACKS IN NAIROBI -- FORMERLY A BRITISH MILITARY GARRISON -- WERE RE-OPENED YESTERDAY AS A TEACHER COLLEGE FOR KENYAN STUDENTS. THE COLLEGE HAS BEEN NAMED KENYATTA COLLEGE, IN HONOUR OF THE KENYA PRIME MINISTER, MR. JOMO KENYATTA.

    THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER, MR. MALCOLM McDONALD, PRESENTING MR. KENYATTA WITH THE KEYS OF THE COLLEGE, DESCRIBED THE BUILDING AS A FORMER 'FORTRESS OF COLONIALISM'. HE SAID IT WOULD NOW BECOME A DIFFERENT TYPE OF FORTRESS FROM WHICH STUDENTS WOULD EMERGE TO FIGHT IGNORANCE AND POVERTY.
