TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 1: REPORTER: Mr. Giri, there have been reports that Ved Prakash, the youngest member of your team might be too young to wrestle at Edinburgh. There was a meeting today, how did it work out?

MR. GIRI: Well, I went before the technical committee and showed them the passport as authentic proof of his age and then there was another licence, you see, by the international body known as AFLIA, to fight in the international meeting because he had already taken part in the games in Canada. So I showed them both my papers and they were convinced, and they allowed him to play, they were gracious enough to say that he will not only play but....Commonwealth Games.

REPORTER: There was some suggestion that Ved might be so young that he might get injured in the Games.

MR. GIRI: Well, there is no question of being so young because the passport says the age of fifteen and you can look at it, and ask Ved what his age is.

REPORTER: Ved, we'll turn to you now, what is your age in fact?

    VED: Er...fifteen.

    REPORTER: Fifteen.

Background: The young Indian wrestler, Ved Prakash, has been cleared by the organisers to complete in the Commonwealth Games being held in Edinburgh this month. For the past week there has been a dispute over his age, with reports varying between 12 and 15.

The dispute arose when communications from India gave his age as 12. The Technical Committee then said he was ineligible to compete as the minimum age for his event was 15.

Mr. Joe Coyne, the assistant to the Director of the wrestling organisation, said that the confusion had arisen because of a misprint in literature sent from India. The year of birth given for Ved Prakash in his passport is 1955.

The Indian Manager, Mr. Giri, and Ved Prakash were interviewed by a reporter.
