    MR. VAUGHN, WHO WAS IN GHANA FOR THE FIVE-DAY ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE ORGANISATION OPENED IN ACCRA ON MONDAY (27 MAY), WAS SPEAKING TO REPORTERS AT A NEWS CONFERENCE.

    THE CONFERENCE WAS ALSO ATTENDED BY OFFICIALS OF THE UNITED STATES INFORMATION SERVICE AND MR. JAMES KIRK, PEACE CORPS DIRECTOR IN GHANA.

    THE DIRECTOR SAID ABOUT 10,000 PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS WERE TRAINED IN AMERICA YEARLY FOR WORK IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES. AT PRESENT 35,000 PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS WERE SERVING IN 63 COUNTRIES INCLUDING GHANA.

    HE SAID THE U.S. GOVERNMENT SPENT ABOUT 107 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR ON THE PEACE CORPS MOVEMENT.
