    THE TWENTIETH WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY, GROUPING SOME 400 DELEGATES FROM 128 COUNTRIES, TODAY (MONDAY) BEGAN THREE-WEEK TALKS IN GENEVA ON THE PAST AND FUTURE WORK OF THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION (WHO) WHICH ITS HEADQUARTERS THERE.

    IN HIS ANNUAL REPORT, THE WHO'S BRAZILIAN DIRECTOR-GENERAL, DR. MARCOLINO CANDAU, OUTLINED PLANS FOR THE CONTINUING BATTLE AGAINST MALARIA, SMALLPOX, TUBERCULOSIS AND PARASITIC DISEASE.

    THESE PROPOSALS AWAIT THE ASSEMBLY'S APPROVAL -- AS DOES THE RECOMMENDED WORKING BUDGET FRO 1968 OF 55,944,000 U.S. DOLLARS (GBP14,997,000 STERLING) -- NEARLY NINE PER CENT HIGHER THAN THAT AGREED LAST YEAR.

    OTHER PROJECTS PLANNED INCLUDE THE FIRST SYSTEMATIC COLLECTION OF DATA ON THE RESULTS OF CANCER TREATMENT AND THE CONTINUATION OF A RESEARCH PROGRAMME INTO HEART DISEASES.

    THE GATHERING WAS OPENED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE NINETEENTH ASSEMBLY, DR. ARNOLD SAUTER, OF SWITZERLAND, WHO THEN OVER TO DR. VICTOR HERAT GUNARATNE, DIRECTOR OF CEYLON'S MEDICAL SERVICES, ELECTED BY DELEGATES AS PRESIDENT OF THE TWENTIETH ASSEMBLY.
