    Britain's Queen Elizabeth visited the Duke and Duchess of Windsor at their home on the outskirts of Paris on Thursday (May 18). She was accompanied by her husband, Prince Philip, and their eldest son and heir to the British throne, Prince Charles.

    The Duke, who has lived outside Britain for more than thirty years, is the Queen's uncle. He was formerly King Edward VIII, and abdicated in 1936 to marry a divorces--in a move frowned upon by British Royal protocol.

    The forty-minute meeting was the first at which the Duchess, formerly Mrs. Wallis Simpson, has played hostess to the Queen.

    The meeting came during the queen's state visit to France.

    SYNOPSIS: The Duke of Windsor's home on the outskirts of Paris....where Britain's Queen Elizabeth visited the Duke, her uncle, and the Duchess in a forty-minute meeting on Thursday. The Queen was accompanied by her husband, Prince Philip, and their son and heir to the British throne, Prince Charles. The Royal family were on a state visit to France.

    Their meeting was the first at which the Duchess of Windsor had hosted. The Duke, who is the Queen's uncle, was formerly King Edward the Eighth. He abdicated in 1936 to marry a divorces--now the Duchess--in a move which was frowned upon by British Royal protocol. He and the Duchess have lived outside Britain for over thirty years, and meetings with the Royal family have been rare. On Thursday the Duke--who is seventy-eight--was not well enough to accompany the Royal family outside as they left.
