    Prisoners at the New Jersey State Prison, at Rahway in the northern part of the state, released six hostages and gave up control of two winds an Thursday night (25 November). The move came after authorities had agreed to listen to their grievances.

    The hostages, held since prisoners seized parts of the prison in a riot on Wednesday night, were all reported in good condition. Nearly 600 prisoners took part in the action. The prisoners agreed to give up their control of the prison after three local reporters and a representative of the New Jersey State governor were admitted to her their demands.

    The prisoners were asking for no reprisals against them because of the riot, better food, more religious freedom, and an end to alleged racism, brutality and drug trafficking by guards.

    On Friday (26 November), prison warden Samuel Vukcevich spoke to newsmen from his hospital bed. He had been stabbed and bruised in the initial stages of the riot.
