    South Vietnamese was veterans threatened on Tuesday (28 September) to send armed commando groups against police if one of their leaders -- arrested earlier in the day during a violent demonstration -- was not released within 24 hours.

    President Thieu, speaking in Saigon today (Wednesday 29, September) to convention of about 400 policemen, ordered them to shoot demonstrators disrupting public order. His order was clearly directed at stopping the burnings of United states vehicles by demonstrators protesting against to coming election.

    On Tuesday, violent demonstrations again broke out in the streets of Saigon. Students claim that police shot and wound one of their member although the report is officially denied. Police and troops used tear gas volleys to disperse the crowd, who replied with rocks and firebombs.
