  • Description

Police surrounded the French Broadcasting Company (ORTF) in Paris on Tuesday (October 8) as technicians and journalists began an indefinite strike over guarantees of employment for when the company splits into seven separate groups next year.

The Unions say that when ORTF splits, all employees over 60 will be forced to retire. They also claim that there will be loss of seniority and jobs will be lost when the new independent television and radio stations start rehiring.

The Unions stressed that they were not trying to force the Government to rescind the law scrapping the present single company, but they did want a guarantee of full employment.
