    PRESIDENT JOSEPH MOBUTU OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO WELCOMED A 40-MAN EAST GERMAN TRADE MISSION TO KINSHASA LAST WEEK (11 FEB.)
    THE TRADE MISSION WAS IN CONGO-KINSHASA AS A RESULT OF A RECENT TRIP BY PRESIDENT MOBUTU TO WEST GERMANY. WHILE IN EUROPE THE PRESIDENT DISCUSSED WITH ECONOMISTS THE POSSIBILITY OF ENCOURAGING MORE OVERSEAS INVESTMENT IN HIS COUNTRY.

    THE WEST GERMAN AMBASSADOR, MR. NEUMAN, INTRODUCED THE MISSION TO PRESIDENT MOBUTU. THE MISSION IS LED BY HAMBURG BUSINESSMAN KLAUS HANSEN WHO POINTED OUT THAT WEST GERMANY IS NOW CONGO-KINSHASA'S THIRD LARGEST TRADING PARTNER BEHIND BELGIUM AND ITALY. GERMAN EXPORTS TO THE CONGO ARE NOW WORTH MORE THAN 41 MILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY -- MAINLY MACHINERY, CARS, AND ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES. THE MISSION WANTS TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO CO-OPERATIVES IN THE WESTERN PROVINCE OF KIVU AND A JOINT COMMITTEE TO STUDY PROBLEMS OF THE TIMBER INDUSTRY.

    THE MISSION ALSO HELD MEETINGS WITH THE CONGO-KINSHASA ECONOMIC MINISTER, MR. LOANGO, THE FOREIGN MINISTER, CYRILLE ADOULA, AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, MR. THOMAS TUMBA. THE ECONOMICS MINISTER SAID THAT FOREIGN INVESTMENT WAS ENCOURAGED IN CONGO-KINSHASA AND POINTED TO THE STABILITY OF THE COUNTRY.

    PRESIDENT MOBUTU EMPHASISED TO THE MISSION HIS WISH THAT WEST GERMAN FIRMS APPOINT THEIR OWN DELEGATES TO THE CONGO INSTEAD OF BEING REPRESENTED BY FOREIGN FIRMS.
