Background: West Germany, runners-up to England in the 1966 World Football Cup Final, have secured one of the best training centres in Mexico. They are based in the Balneario Comanjilla Hotel eleven miles (18 kilometres) from Leon in central Mexico.
To help the German players, the hotel owners have given up part of the golf course backing onto the hotel and imported goalposts and nets to provide them with a practice ground.
The setting and arrangements are proving big morale boosters to the German soccer stars, who include 13 of the players selected in 1966 and eight who played in the final that year.
Under the watchful eye of trainer, Helmut Schoen, the players train hard. But there are no warm-up matches planned for the 22 players for fear of incurring injuries against minor teams.
