  • Description

Laotian Premier Souvanna Phouma said on Tuesday (24 October), he expects a ceasefire in Indochina to be announced by the and of October, but peace itself to come later. Prince Souvanna, who arrived in Paris last weekend, cautioned that peace would take longer to work out than an armistice because of the varying conditions in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

In an interview with Visnews representative Jean Magny, Prince Souvanna said that, taking into account the present international circumstances, it seemed that now was the time to settle the Indochina problem. He said that renewed relations between Peking and Washington gave increased hopes of peace.

On Wednesday, Prince Souvanna flew to Washington for talks with President Nixon's adviser, Dr Henry Kissinger, and Secretary of State William Rogers.
