    The British Government is to spend over a thousand million pounds (sterling) in an effort to clean up its polluted rivers -- following a Government-sponsored report issued on Wednesday (December 29) which said that three-quarters of the country's river-water is polluted.

    The money -- GBP1,300-million -- will be spent on water and sewerage cervices over the next five years, compared to GBP660-million spent on the same jobs int he last five. This film takes a look at some examples of Britain's polluted rivers -- targets for the new clean-up campaign to complement past and present drives against land and air pollution.
