TRANSCRIPT: Lebanese Premier Selim Al-Hoss, described the Israeli raid as an "ugly crime against peaceful citizens without any justification whatsoever". He said it was time for the world to know that what he called Israel's "arrogance and disregard for man, humanity and the international community, are unlimited". Dr. Hoss called on the world to put a decisive end to what he called Israel aggression.

Background: Three formations of Israeli planes raided Lebanese coastal villages south of Beirut on Sunday night (22 July) and sources said most of the casualties were civilians. But in Tel Aviv a military spokesman said Israeli planes attacked what they called Palestinian terrorist concentrations.

SYNOPSIS: According to sources in Lebanon, three formations attacked a refugee camp at Damour, the Akibiyeh area near Sidon, and Sarafand for about half an hour. In Sarafand five cars were destroyed, and shops and buildings were seriously damaged. The state-run Beirut radio put the casualty toll at eighteen killed and sixty-five wounded. It said the Israeli planes used highly explosive bombs and rockets.

Palestinian sources said a number of people were believed trapped in the rubble.

Clashes in the troubled south have intensified over the past few days amid Palestinian commando predictions that Israel is planning a large scale military operation in the region.

Hospital officials reported serious injuries sustained by many people during the raid -- including this pregnant woman whose leg was almost blown off.
