October 6th visitor to the White House was Indonesian President Soekarno, the man who presented to the UN the 'neutral' nations suggestion for a meeting between Ike and Kruschev. After seeing Ike; Soekarno said he understood better why the United States doesn't want the meeting to take place.
October 7th saw the White House arrival of King Hussein of Jordan, the pro-Western Arab Monarch whose attacks on Nasser of UAR caused a furore earlier this week. Though he declined to reveal the subject of discussion with Ike, King Hussein said his country was not disappointed that the 'neutral' sponsors withdrew their resolution for a K/Ike meeting. He told reporters that prior to such a suggestion "there should have been plenty of work and planning so that chances of a useful result would be better.
