    Two new game lodges were opened on Saturday (24 March) by Kenya's Minister for Tourism and Wildlife, Mr. J.L.M. Shako.

    The two new lodges are at Taita Hills and Salt Lick, both in the south of Kenya, and six miles apart. They're close to Tsavo, one of the best known national parks in East Africa.

    Hilton International financed the project, and at a total cost of two-and-half million dollars (GBP 1,500,000 sterling), it represents the largest single foreign investment in Kenya.

    SYNOPSIS: Kenya's Minister of Tourism and Wildlife Mr. Shako opened two new game lodges on Saturday at Taita Hills and Salt Lick. Government officials and representatives of Hilton International, who own the lodges, were at the ceremony. Mr. Shako made a short speech cut the ribbon, and was shown around the first lodge at Salt Lick.

    The Salt Lick lodge was built for watching game, and as its name implies, the animals come to a waterhole either to drink or lick the slat around it. There's a lot of game...so much, that as a safety measure, children under fourteen aren't allowed in.

    Only six miles away from Salt Lick, Mr. Shako cut another ribbon to officially open the Hilton-owned Taita Game Lodge. It's bigger than Salt Lick, and it has more facilities. The official party were given a good look over the party were given a good look over the sixty-two roomed luxury lodge, then they were shown the animals.

    The lodges are only six miles apart, and they're connected by ???bus service. They've been built right next to the big Tsavo, one of East Africa's best known national parks. The park is wild and uninhabited. It covers more than eight thousand square miles, and is one of the safest breeding grounds for thousands of animals.
