Background: England playing in white shirts beat Northern Ireland at Wembley on Tuesday (23 February) for four goals to nil. Ron Greenwood, England's Manager, used the occasion for several experimental changes in the established England team and Steve Foster of Brighton made his debut. The first goal came within a minutes of the start, when Anderson passed to Francis who sent a low pass into the goalmouth for Robson to shoot into the roof of net. Northern Ireland were unlucky not to equalise after several goal attempts through McIlroy and Donaghy. In the second half, Morley found Francis who crossed a superb ball for Keegan to head past Jennings. England's third goal came from a corner, taken by Hoddle, and ineffectively cleared by the Irish defence. The ball fell to Wilkins, whose deflected shot left Jennings stranded. England were in full control of the match when Jennings failed to hold a shot from Sansom and Hoddle had no trouble in scoring England' fourth goal.
