  • Description

The first L-1011 TriStar for Gulf Air has rolled out of final assembly hangers at Lockheed's commercial aircraft base in the California desert in the United States.

The aircraft will now undergo a flight test programme before delivery to the airline on 20 January,1976, a day ahead of schedule.

The first service -- on rout between London and the Gulf States -- is due to start on 1 April, 1976. For travellers the TriStar will be a new experience. The fittings make the inside of the aircraft the most luxurious ever designed for a commercial airline.

The first class compartment and adjacent lounge comprise nearly half of the passenger cabin space. Some of the attractions include a library, a duty-free boutique and gourmet meals produced in the below-deck galley.

A second TriStar for Gulf Air is moving along in production closely behind the first and will be delivered in February with April also as the service target. Gulf Air has ordered a total of eight new airliners.
