THE UNITED NATIONS MEDIATOR, MR. JUOMIOJA'S ARRIVAL IN NICOSIA TONIGHT COINCIDED WITH REPORTS OF FIST FIGHTS BETWEEN BRITISH PARATROOPERS AND GREEK CYPRIOT AUXILIARIES.

    YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) THE FIRST BRITISH TROOPS TO LEAVE THE ISLAND SINCE THE UNITED NATIONS TOOK OVER THE BRITISH PEACE KEEPING ROLE - 550 MEN OF THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH'S ROYAL REGIMENT - TOOK FROM NICOSIA AIRPORT. THEY ARE RETURNING TO TAKE UP THEIR DUTIES IN MALTA.

    THEY HAD BEEN FLOWN TO CYPRUS AT THE NIGHT OF THE TROUBLES TO REINFORCE BRITISH GARRISON TROOPS AND PARATROOPERS, WHO WERE ENGAGED ON PEACE KEEPING DUTIES.
