  • Description

THOUSANDS OF GREEKS YESTERDAY (MONDAY) CELEBRATED THE 28TH ANNIVERSARY OF OCHI (NO) DAY - THE DAY WHICH GREECE REFUSED TO ACCEPT AN ULTIMATUM FROM ITALIAN FORCES POISED TO INVADE THEIR BORDERS. THE GREEK PREMIER, MR.GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS, AND THE REGENT, LIEUTENANT - GENERAL GEORGE ZOITAKIS, WERE AMONG SCORES OF OFFICIALS WHO ATTENDED THE CELEBRATIONS, IN SALONIKA.

YESTERDAY'S PARADE WAS ANTICIPATED BY MANY PEOPLE IN GREECE'S NORTHERN DISTRICTS. THE GREEK PREMIER AND HIS PARTY WERE GREETED BY THOUSANDS OF CHEERING PEOPLE AS THEY ARRIVED FOR THE CELEBRATIONS.

MR. PAPODOUPOULOS SAID THAT GREECE'S MORAL VICTORY IN 1940 WAS THE RESULT OF THE UNITY OF HER PEOPLE WHICH HAD ALWAYS PROVED TO BE AN ENDLESS SOURCE OF POWER.

THE APRIL 21 REVOLUTION, HE SAID, HAD BROUGHT ABOUT - AS THE RECENT REFERENDUM PROVED - THE PREREQUISITES OF A SIMILAR UNITY INDISPENSABLE TO PEACEFUL WORKS.

TO COINCIDE WITH THE PARADE, AN ORTHODOX MASS WAS HELD IN ATHENS CATHEDRAL ATTENDED BY THE MINISTER OF ECONOMIC CO-ORDINATION, FORMER COLONEL NICHOLAS MAKAREZOS, AND OTHER MINISTERS.

PLANES FLEW OVER CITY ROOFTOPS SHOWERING SMALL BLUE AND WHITE LEAFLETS BEARING THE SLOGAN "PEOPLE AND ARMY ALWAYS UNITED."
