Before a crowd estimated at 100,000, John surtees, the world champion, riding an M.V. won the 350 c.c. race in the Dutch T.T. motor cycle races at Assen, Holland, June 25 but retired, hurt though not seriously, from the 500 c.c. race in an accident following engine trouble.
Surtees' time for the 154.09 kilometres of the 350 c.c. race was 68 minutes 43.7 secs. and his average speed was 134.522 km. He made the fastest lap of the race in minutes 22.6 secs. at 136.899 km.
Gary Hocking, 2 (Rhodesia, M.V.) was 2nd, in 69 minutes 9.2 secs., with an average speed of 133,693 km. Third man home was Bob Anderson, 7 (England, Norton), in 71 minutes 1.5 secs,. with an average speed of 130.172 km.
The Czechoslovak rider, Stastny, who held third place for 19 out of 20 rounds on his HJawa, had to retire in the 19th round with engine trouble.
