    A collection of paintings by the Hungarian artist Janos Orosz was auctioned in Budapest yesterday (October 3) in aid of the victims of drought which has ruined the lives of millions in Africa.

    The artist offered 119 paintings for auction, as well as other works of art, after seeing film of the sufferings of the drought victims.

    The money rased by the auction totalled more than 600,--- forints (about 25,000 sterling) which is to be sent to the Hungarian Red Cross for passing on to relief organisations new working in Africa.

    The auction was held in the cultural centre of the Hungarian Optical works in Budapest and among those who came to buy were factory workers and schoolchildren.

    SYNOPSIS: The money raised at the auction totalled more than 600,000 forints (about 25,000 sterling) and will be sent to the Hungarian Red Cross for passing on to relief organisations now working in the drought areas of Africa.
