Background: A five-man trade mission from the People's Republic of China arrived in Guyana last week for a week-long visit. The team, led by Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade Chou Hua-Ming, is discussing the possibilities of establishing firm trade links between the two countries.
On Friday (August 27), the mission held talks with Guyana's delegation under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Agriculture Minister Dr. Ptolemy Redo. The Chinese mission will visit production centres for sugar and timber, two of the principal commodities under discussion.
