  • Description

About eight Turkish national were deported from West Germany on Tuesday (17 October) as part of the Government's action against people suspected of sympathising with Arab guerrilla groups.

Police put a heavy security screen around Dusseldorf Airport as officials checked the Turks' passports and escorted them on to an aircraft.

The expulsion of the Turks was the latest in a series of measure against Arab nationals living in West Germany. The clamp-down is officially described as a move to prevent further guerrilla actions after the Munich Olympic shootings.

SYNOPSIS: A ground of about eight Turks were deported from West Germany on Tuesday. They left Dusseldorf Airport under a heavy police escort.

The Turks were ordered to leave by West Germany authorities who have been conducting a campaign against people suspected of sympathising with Arab guerrilla groups.

Two Palestinian political groups have been banned and the entry of Arabs to West Germany is restricted.

The Interior Ministry says the measures are intended to prevent further guerrilla action like the Munich shooting in which eleven Israeli Olympic athletes died.

Police escorted the Turks to the airport and put them aboard an aircraft for Istanbul. The name of the airline was kept secret for fear of reprisals.
