Background: In Yugoslavia, the competition for the Thayer Tutt Trophy ice hockey competition began in Ljubljana on Saturday (8 March) and has drawn teams from east and western Europe. Taking part in the competition -- named after the famous American organiser of the sport -- are teams from Yugoslavia, Italy, Austria, France, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Rumania, Hungary, China and West Germany. The opening match of the tournament was between China and Yugoslavia.

A tense match all the way which was not without some injury.
