  • Description

Sir John Hare, the War Minister, paid a courtesy call on President Habib Bourguiba of Tunisia today, before leaving for Medjes-el-Baab where the war memorial to British soldiers killed in the 1939-1945 war was to be unveiled.

He was accompanied by Mr. Malcolm, the British Ambassador, General Sir Kenneth Anderson, Lt. General Sir Richard Hull, the deputy C.I.G.S., and Rear-Admiral Sir Charles Madden.

Asked to make a statement afterwards, Mr Hare said his visit would strengthen ties of friendship between the two countries.

No political significance is attached to this purely courtesy visit; but it has gratified Tunisians.
