  • Description

Rod Laver, the veteran Australian, and Bjorn Borg, Sweden's bright young tennis star, won through to a meeting in the semi-finals of the World Championship Tennis tournament in Dallas this week.

Borg's three set victory over Mexican Raul Ramirez was not entirely straightforward, with the Swede forced into a tie-break in the first two sets. Nevertheless, Borg won in three sets.

Laver, on the other hand, faced a titanic struggle against Harold Solomon of the United States. It lasted for three hours before Laver won through 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3--though he admitted he was close to exhaustion by the end.
