Background: The six man crew of the Israel fishing trawler 'Doron', seized by the Egyptians on September 22, 1957, was released today - but the vessel is still in Egyptian hands. The 'Doron' was impounded after the Egyptians claimed it had violated Egyptian territorial waters; though the Israeli crew of five and their Italian captain insisted that they were at least 20 miles off El Arish when they were forced to surrender by Egyptian naval vessels. In fact, they add, as a deep-water trawler, fishing would have been impracticable within the shallow reaches of territorial waters. Israel immediately applied for the intervention of the International Red Cross and also for some action by United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarschool The United Nations spokesman eventually was able to tell the Israels that Cairo had ordered the release of the fishermen. Film shows the being handed over to their native country at the Ghaza strip.
