TRANSCRIPT: REPORTER: (SEQ. 4) "Mr. Davis, is Mo a wild animal?"

DAVIS: "A long ways from being one. He's no more wilder than I am."

REPORTER: "He seems to be kissing our microphone. What does Mo do that makes him more than just an animal to you?"

DAVIS: "He understands real well, he has feelings, he eats at the table with us, wears clothes--we take him just about everywhere with us and it is just a shame that he's not accepted at more places."

REPORTER: "Is he more or less like a member of the family?"

DAVIS: "He is the most important member of our family."

REPORTER: "Does Mo have anything to say to all this?" (POINTS MICROPHONE AT CHIMPANZEE).

Background: A three-year-old chimpanzee named Mogambo--"Mo" for short--went to Court in West Covina, California on Friday, February 5th, with his owners Jim and Donna Davis. "Mo" and the Davises were trying to prove that the Chimpanzee was not a wild animal--because the city forbids raising or possession of wild animals and the penalty could be six months in jail or a 500-dollar (208 pounds sterling) fine.

Friends and neighbours turned up as character references and Jim Davis has said that he is prepared to go to the Supreme Court to prove "Mo" is not wild--or an animal, for that matter.
