    Forty-four ships from a dozen nations took part in the annual race for old sailing ships from the southern coast of England to northern Denmark. The course covered 645 miles.

    The British schooner "Sir Winston Churchill" and its crew of forty-four girls finished the race in fifth place - third in its class.

    The tall ships race is an annual affair sponsored by the Sail Training Association to encourage the instruction of young people under sail.

    The race was won by the italian Navy yacht "Stella Polare".

    The "Sir Winston Churchill" entered Copenhagen harbour on Thursday (August 24). The international fleet of old sailing ships will continue on to the Olympic Regatta in Kiel, West Germany next month.
