It's 30 ft long, 14 ft in diameter and weighs 4 tons and drew quite a crowd of NASA staff people as it was towed from where it was built to where it will be stored and tested.
The experiments will cost the sponsoring agencies about $100,000 apiece, a bargain for them according to project manager William Kiter and not much of a burden for NASA.
`That's right, the opportunities here is that we furnish a tree to these people and they build there experiment in totally self-contain it in the tree.. we simply deliver it in space, bring it back, take the tree off and they can do the work in their own laboratory.
`Eldaf will remain here at langley under-gong tests until next summer and if all goes as planned, it should be making it's maiden voyage out in space sometime in 1980
