    Sheikh Gabriel Gemayel, president of the National Olympic Committee of the Lebanon, yesterday (Friday) visited Munich to plant a group of the famous cedars of Lebanon in the grounds now being prepared for the 1972 Olympic Games.

    He was accompanied at the ceremony by the director of the Munich Olympics, Herr Willi Daume.

    Work is now well advanced on the stadium, sports halls and village that go to make up the main Olympic complex in the suburbs of Munich, in preparation for the Games which begin on August 26, 1972.

    The various structures in the main complex are being set in parkland, and the organisers have had the happy idea of planting the trees from all over the world. The cedars of Lebanon, celebrated since ancient times, are the first to be planted.

    SYNOPSIS: In Munich, West Germany, work now well advanced on the compl??? being built to house the 1972 Olympic Games. The stadium, swimming stadium and sports hall with the Olympic Villages, form main group of buildings on the Oberwiesenfeld grounds, where ??? of the events will take place.

    This week the flag of the Lebanon with its cedar-tree emblem, fle??? alongside the Olympic and West German flags. It was there to meet the visit of Sheikh Gabriel Gamayel, president of the Lebanon Olympic Committee. Crowds gathered on the newly-grassed parkland and band played traditional Bavarian music.

    Sheikh Gemayel was welcomed to the Olympic site by Herr Willi Daumer, director of the Munich Olympics. The organisers of the Games are anxious that the Olympic site should become a permanent feature of the local landscape. The purpose of the Sheikh's visit was to plant a group of the famous cedars of Lebanon. The planners hope they will be followed by other trees from all over the world. In this way the stark landscape of the Olympic site will gradually be transformed into a shady parkland to give pleasure to future generations.
