Herr Josef Ertl, the West German Agriculture Minister, opened the exhibition and wandered round to see some of the exhibits. Forty-four nations are represented at the event. The stands provide an instant geography lesson. Each displays the foods produced in the country concerned. A range as wide as the climates and other conditions which have given each nation its individual specialities.

At the Israeli stand, Herr Ertl tried on the sort of hat worn on the communal farms.

The People's Republic of China was represented by a wide range of products.

The British stand was among those which invited visitors to stop awhile to sample their national drink.
