Hungary and Spain drew 1 -1 in a friendly played in Budapest on May 31. The match was a warm-up for Spain who were to play in the European Championship Finals in France. Hungary has not qualified for the finals, due to start on June 12. In the match, Spain scored their goal in the 21st minute from a throw-in, with the ball being played across the goal mouth, giving Rincon the opportunity to put Spain ahead. In the first minute of the second half, Hungary took a free kick from which the ball was crossed into the penalty area for Nagy to head in Hungary's equaliser. Neither side was able to break the tie, although Hungary narrowly missed a chance to gain the upper hand when a header hit an upright. Spain is due to play Yugoslavia in Spain on June 7 before embarking on the European Championship Finals. Hungarian soccer has been rocked in recent months stories of league matches being fixed.
