  • Description

One of two hunters stranded in heavy snow i the mountains of North Dakota for over a month, eventually walked out to safety on Wednesday (20th January). When rescuers reached his stranded car, his companion was found to have killed himself with a gun... apparently having given up all hope of rescue.

The two men, Robert Bailey and Joe Conquest, were hunting for deer when their car was stranded in heavy snow on 29th November last. They used the car as a base for a month, surviving on raw venison.

Searchers looking for the hunters reached within two miles of the car, but failed to find them. Finally Bailey decided to walk, but Conquest... whose feet were frostbitten... stayed behind in the car. When help eventually arrived, Conquest was found with a bullet in his head.

Interviewed at a local hospital, Bailey described the ordeal.
