1978 World Cup hopefuls Scotland maintained their unbeaten record in tour of Latin American countries, when they drew one-all with Argentina in a not so friendly match in Buenos Aires on Saturday (June 18). the match which was marred by some violence, saw a player from both teams sent off.

SYNOPSIS: After a goaless first half, the Argentinians, playing right to left in the blue shorts, were determined to step up the pressure on the Scots when the second half began. In the first half, trouble between the two teams was already beginning to brew. After only the fifth minute officials gave Vicente Pernia of Argentina a caution for fouling Scotland's Willie Johnston.

But trouble between the two continued in the second half. Ten minutes into play the stocky, quick-running Scot swerved past two men but was stopped by a combination of vicious tackles, including one from Pernia, wearing number 4. Johnston angrily protested to Pernia who promptly spat in his face. The incident immediately brought out the red card and both men were dismissed from the match, in the 55th minute.

Only nine days ago a similar incident between Argentina and England led to players from both teams being sent off. Undeterred by the double sen off, Scotland began to build up its attack with this forward pass by number 6, Gemmill, to Dalglish, who was fouled in the penalty area.

Scotland then took the lead with this penalty shot by Don Masson.

A foul committed by Scotland's Tom Forsyth on Argentina's Trossero in the penalty area four minutes later gave Argentina its chance to come back.

Argentina equalised with penalty kick by Passarella.

Both sides had chances to win the match in the last nine minutes but Scotland were clearly relieved to get off the pitch without further incident.
