    Background: The 31 members of the British Commonwealth, representing some 900 million people, celebrate Commonwealth Day on Saturday (June 3) -- the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth.

    To celebrate the occasion, the Commonwealth Secretariat invited the Queen to meet High Commissioners at its headquarters in Marlborough House, London.

    In a special message, the Queen recalled that the number of people in Commonwealth countries amounted to nearly a quarter of the world's population. And she said there was no aspect of their lives not touched and helped by its varied network of day to day exchanges.

    SYNOPSIS: In London, the Commonwealth Headquarters at Marlborough House, representing nearly nine-hundred million people from thirty-one member countries. Saturday, the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth, is also Commonwealth Day. To mark the occasion, the Secretariat invited the Queen to meet some of the High Commissioners at a special garden party. The Opposition Labour Party leader Harold Wilson was also there.

    One in every four people in the world lives in a Commonwealth country. And eight out of ten of them are either Africans or Asians.

    In a special message, the Queen...who is monarch of eleven Commonwealth countries...said there is no aspect of life in the Commonwealth not helped by its day-to-day exchanges.
