    Three-times women's World Ski Champion, Annemarie Proll-Moser of Austria, almost certainly clioched her fourth championship with a superb victory in the down-hill event at Bad Gastein in Austria on Wednesday (23 January).

    Now recovered from the setback of her first downhill defeats since 1972 earlier this month, Annemarie covered the 2,800 metre course in just two minutes, eight seconds -- the only woman to finish in under two minutes, ten seconds.

    Her closest rival in the points table, marie-Therese Nadig of Switzerland, completed the course in two minutes, ten and a half seconds.

    Miss. Moser is now one hundred points ahead of Miss. Nadig, the former Olympic downhill champion.

    SYNOPSIS: The women's downhill evetin the World Ski Championships, and Wiltrub Drexel of Austria shows the style which took her into third place. Despite difficult conditions, including a glazed patch of ice on a vital corner, she covered the course at Bad Gastein, Austria, in just over two minutes and ten seconds.

    Only a bare tenth of a second faster in second place was Swiss skiier, Marie-Therese Nadig who handled the tough conditions with apparent ease.

    Reputedly one of the longest and most difficult of downhill tracks Bad Gastein, in the Austrian province of Salzburg, tested the women skiiers to their limits.

    One of the few sacualties of the exacting course was Austrian skiier, Brigitte Schroll.

    But highlight of the event was the return to top form of Annemarie Proll-Moser of Austria. Defeated only ten days earlier by American teenager, Cindy Nelson, Annemarie again showed all the skill which had already taken her to three world championships. With an elapsed time of only two minutes and eight seconds she was the only competitor to beat the magic two minute and ten second barrier. The win gave her an almost unbeatable lead in the world ski-ing championships.
