    Belgian Foreign Minister Pierre Harmel visited the Zaire Republic early this month (March 1 - 4) for talks designed to foster relations between the two countries. During his visit he had talks with President Mobutu Sese Seko. They discussed economic problems. Later M. Harmel told reporters that the Zaire government was relying on "an open Belgian attitude" and he said he believed he was the messenger of this attitude.

    SYNOPSIS: In the course of a three-day visit to the Republic of Zaire early this month the Belgian Foreign Minister Pierre Harmel had talks with President Mobutu Sese Seko, at the President's residence on Mount Galiema.

    The Belgian Minister, who was in Zaire for talks aimed at festering relations between the two countries, was conducted to President Mobutu's residence by his Zairian opposites number, Mr. Ngunza Karl'Ibend.

    The talks with the President lasted eighty minutes. Afterwards Monsieur Harmel told reporters that the Zaire Government was relying on "an open Belgian attitude," towards the problems posed by the unfavourable market prices of primary goods. He added that he saw himself as the messenger of this "open position". After lunch at the residence and more talks the President bade farewell to Monsieur Harmel and the Belgian party.
