BACKGROUND: Twenty-one USAF F-15 Eagle fighters completed a 3,600-nautical mile, nonstop deployment to Bitburg Air Base, Germany, on April 27, marking the first assignment of the new air superiority aircraft to Europe. The assignment will improve the defense capability of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The movement of this squadron to Bitburg is the beginning of a previously announced transfer of a Tactical Air Command Wing of F-15s to Germany that will eventually number 72 aircraft, 90 aircrews and 522 support personnel.

The flight, air refueled by Strategic Air Command KC-135s, departed Langley Air Force Base, VA, at 3:30 a.m. and arrived at Bitburg at 11:00 a.m., April 27.

Additional deployments to Germany will occur this summer to complete the Wing's transfer.
