Background: The capital of Laos has been decorating with the new flags of Pathet Lao since the pro-communist abolished the monarchy and proclaimed Laos a people's democratic republic two weeks ago.
The new red and blue coloured flags were hung in the streets and over the residential balconies in Vientiane by the supporters of the Fathet Lao Government.
Meanwhile, those people who are not happy with the new government have closed their shops and left for Thailand or France. More than 2,000 Laotians have recently escaped into Thailand since the new Government declared the Republic.
On the orders of the new Pathet Lao Government, the populace were instructed to grow vegetables in any spare: piece of land that is available. This campaign is strongly proceeded over the country after the Thai Government closed down the 800-mile border. Laos used to import vegetables from Thailand, and now the prices of vegetables in Vientiane are rocketing high.
The Thai Government blocked the vital Nong Khai-Vientiane border post following a serious Mekong incident a month ago.
