    BRITAIN'S SRN-6 HOVERCRAFT MARKED ITS FIRST VISIT TO GHANA ON WEDNESDAY BY GIVING A RIDE TO A GROUP OF THE COUNTRY'S TOP OFFICIALS.

    AMONG THOSE WHO TOOK THE DEMONSTRATION RUN WERE GHANA'S MINISTER OF DEFENCE, MR. KWESI LAMPTEY, TRANSPORT MINISTER, MR. HARONA ESSEKU, AND THE MINISTER OF TRADE, INDUSTRY AND TOURISM, MR. QUARSHIE. THE TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT AT THE GHANA NATIONAL COLLEGE, NUNGUA, NEAR ACCRA.

    THE SRN-6 HAS COMPLETED A 5,000 MILE (8,000 KM) TRANS-AFRICA EXPEDITION WHICH BEGAN LAST OCTOBER. THE EXPEDITION, MAINLY FOR SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES, TOOK THE CRAFT TO MALI, NIGER, NIGERIA AND THE CAMEROUN. OTHER PLACES VISITED INCLUDED CHAD, CONGO-KINSHASA, SENEGAL AND OTHER NORTH AFRICAN COUNTRIES.

    THE TEN-TON HOVERCRAFT, WHICH HAS A MAXIMUM SPEED OF SIXTY KNOTS, CAN TRAVEL ON SEA AND LAND, AND IS CAPABLE OF CARRYING UP TO 38 TWO PASSENGERS. ON THIS JOURNEY THERE WAS A CREW OF FIVE - TWO CAPTAINS, TWO ENGINEERS AND A PHOTOGRAPHER.

    AFTER A BRIEF STOP IN GHANA FOR TWO DAYS OF INSPECTION TRIALS, HE SRN-6 MOVED ON FOR SIMILAR DEMONSTRATIONS AT THE IVORY COAST.
