  • Description

THE WORLD BANTAMWEIGHT BOXING CHAMPION 'FIGHTING' HARADA OF JAPAN RETAINED HIS TITLE ON TUESDAY WHEN HE OUTPOINTED THE MEXICAN CHALLENGER JOSE MEDEL AT NAGOA IN CENTRAL JAPAN.

HARADA HAD TO FIGHT HARD TO KEEP THE BELT. IT WAS THE THIRD TIME HE AND DEFENCED THE TITLE SINCE HE WON IT FROM EDER JOFRE OF BRAZIL IN MAY, 1965.

HARADA; AGED 24, PURSUED HIS CUSTOMARY AGGRESSIVE TACTICS TO PUT MEDEL OUT OF STRIDE. THE MEXICAN RARELY HAD TIME TO FIGHT TACTFULLY.

NEVERTHELESS, HE DID HAVE HARADA IN TROUBLE A NUMBER OF TIMES AND KNOCKED THE CHAMPION DOWN ONCE WITH A HEAVY BLOW TO THE FACE.

BOTH FIGHTERS FINISHED THE BOUT WITH CUT FACES.

HARADA AND MEDEL LAST FOUGHT THREE YEARS AGO AS FLYWEIGHTS. ON THAT OCCASION MEDEL BEAT HARADA IN SIX ROUNDS.
