    Talks on Indo-Kuwaiti oil co-operation began in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on Thursday (11 December).

    The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Kuwait's Minister for Oil, Abdel Muttaleb Al-Kazimi, and also included the Chairman of the National Petroleum Oil Company in Kuwait, Ahmed Al Mutan, and Deputy Chairman of the Petrochemical Industries Companies in Kuwait, Habib Al Sagar.

    India's Minister for Petroleum and Chemicals, Keshav Deva Malaviya, was his country's chief representative at the talks.

    An Indian newspaper reported that the presence of Mr. Al Mutan and Mr. Al Sagar at the talks indicated that there would be detailed discussions on various aspects of co-operation in petroleum and the petrochemical industries between Kuwait and India.

    Kuwait was once a supplier of fuel and diesel oil to India, and it is believed that trade between the two countries could resume as a result of the talks. Discussions on the supply of Kuwaiti crude oil to India are also expected.

    During his visit Mr. Al-Kazimi is expected to visit an offshore oil exploration area near Bombay.

    SYNOPSIS: Talks on oil co-operation between India and Kuwait started in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on Thursday. Inside the Oil Ministry building, India's Minister for Petroleum and Chemicals, Keshav Deva Malaviya, welcomed the Kuwaiti delegates.

    They were led by Kuwait's Minster for Oil, Abdel Muttaleb Al-Kazimi.

    Other members of the Kuwaiti delegation included the Chairman of the National Petroleum Oil Company in Kuwait, Ahmed Al-Mutan, and the Deputy Chairman of the Petrochemical Industries Companies in Kuwait, Habib Al-Sagar.

    Observers believe that the presence of Mr. Al-Mutan and Mr. Al-Sagar at the talks indicated there would be detailed discussion on various aspects of co-operation in petroleum and the petrochemical industries between India and Kuwait.

    Kuwait used to supply India with fuel and diesel oil and it's believed that trade between the two countries could resume as a result of the current talks. There's also a possibility of Kuwait supplying India with crude oil.

    Mr. Al-Kazimi is expected to be in India until the eighteenth of December.

    During his visit he was also to have talks with the Indian Finance Minister, Mr. C. Subramiam and the Secretary to the Department of Petroleum, Mr. P. Dave, and visit offshore oil drillings near Bombay.
