    With the signing of an Israeli-Ethiopian University aid agreement in Jerusalem on Wednesday (July 15) both countries have agreed that a joint Microbiological Training Programme will be set up at the Haile Salassie I University in Addis Abba to operate in conjunction with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

    Dr. Mekonen Kebret, Vice President for Academic Affairs of Haile Selassie I University signed the agreement on behalf of his country. The President of t he Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Dr. Abraham Harman, represented the Israeli university where the ratification ceremony took place.

    Upon the conclusion of a five-year programme, the entire operation of the Microbiological Unit will have been transferred in stages to the Ethiopian University staff members who will the carry out all teaching and research activities.

    The first phase of the programme will start in February 1971 with the arrival of the first team of Israeli teachers in Addis Ababa for a four-month period. For every year subsequently during the five-year period, they will conduct three courses for students and staff at Jerusalem.

    About 100 Ethiopians will take part in the two-part programme. Both universities will be responsible for the execution and finance of the new programme, which may be expanded in scope after it gets under way.
