Background: A few weeks ago, the new roads of the "Petite Ceinture" were inaugurated in the centre of Brussels by several ministers: The new tunnels and the viaduct are also part of this Petite Ceinture.
To-day part of these works will have to be done over again.
Indeed, each day at the rush hours, there has been an indescriptible obstruction at the end of the viaduct, in the direction starting from the North Station. The down-path of the viaduct ended dead onto a very busy cross-roads. Very often the traffic-police was completely, overwhelmed. Sometimes, at the peak hours, the autos made only 1 Km., in about 20 minutes driving on the viaduct.
In view of all these inconvenient, the authorities decided to extend the viaduct over more than one kilometer, in order to clear this cross-roads. The extending works have started a few days ago. At the moment a new temporary down-path is being constructed in the middle of the viaduct. Out of the rush hours, a few accidents happened in the tunnels and on the viaduct, the new roads being so large and smooth that certain drivers imagined being on a race-track and driving at really excessive speed.
